Carmens Bio.
Carmen Gundelach was born and raised in Hannover, Germany. She studied Art History and Psychology at the University of Hagen, Germany. After some years as self taught painter she studied painting with the Thorsten Paul Art School, Germany.
Over time her focus changed from painting to fashion, especially creating objects of daily use composed of mixed materials that served different purposes before, giving them a second life. Any kind of used tarp, linen, leather, paper and even rubber from fire hoses get mixed together to unique pieces of usable art/fashion.
Moving from Germany to Laguna Beach, California in 2009 brought the opportunity to be part of the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach which she attended ever since for the summer and winter-shows. In 2013 Carmen became a member of the Sawdust organizational team.
Besides local markets organized by the Laguna Craft Guild, Carmen attends Art’s and Craft shows in Fullerton, Los Angeles and Oceanside and sells through local businesses like the Laguna Coffee Company where she uses the very coffee sacks the coffee beans come in and repurposes them to messenger and shopping bags with a special connection to the place where they are sold.
